The Educational Workers Union of Universities, ASUU, has identified why it received’t name off the commercial motion embarked upon by its members.
The Coordinator of the Calabar Zone of ASUU, Dr. Aniekan Brown mentioned the commercial motion would proceed so long as the federal government insists on the Built-in Payroll and Private Data System, IPPIS.
Addressing journalists yesterday in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, Brown described IPPIS as a cesspool of corruption.
He additionally dismissed claims by the Authorities that 71,000 ASUU members had already accepted to register with the IPPIS.
Describing the declare as incorrect, Brown insisted that such was a distraction to the tutorial physique.
He mentioned: “The distraction referred to as IPPIS is a cesspool of corruption and Federal Authorities’s illicit dedication, hard-work, willpower and treachery to forcibly migrate staff of Federal universities to the IPPIS platform.
“Authorities’s declare isn’t true. We problem the authorities to the truth that we’re not as much as 71,000 members. The Minister for Finance, Funds and Nationwide Planning had earlier mentioned 71,000 members of ASUU had accepted to register on the IPPIS platform. So, the Authorities’s statistics are defective and mere propaganda.
“We is not going to resume work till Authorities addresses our calls for, ASUU members haven’t been paid for between 4 and 9 months. We’re nonetheless within the trenches.”
“We argued that it’s a case of financial waste, as a result of ASUU has been rejecting the IPPIS since 2013 and Authorities challenged us to provide an alternate. We took up the problem and got here up with UTAS.”
