A girl who was locked up by her relations for five months has been rescued.
The Nigerian Safety and Civil Protection Corps (NSCDC) in Gombe State rescued the 35-year-old lady over the weekend.
Saratu Ayuba of Bolari quarters in Gombe metropolis was rescued following a tip-off by neighbours after they learnt of the inhuman situation she was subjected to whereas locked up on the household home.
Witnesses mentioned Saratu was chained and locked up alongside her two-month-old daughter inside an unhygienic, single room at their household home at Bolari quarters within the metropolis.
Saratu, who appeared visibly emaciated with out correct clothes, mentioned she was solely given tea and bread as soon as a day for the final 5 months she had been locked up within the room.
Resulting from her unhealthy situation, she couldn’t produce sufficient breast milk to feed her daughter, she mentioned.
She mentioned her former husband was accountable for the being pregnant, including that he did it intentionally to pressure her brothers to get her again to their home. She mentioned her former husband “mistakenly” divorced her twice.
She mentioned she has two different kids, Alkasim, ten and Fatima, 8, from her first marriage.
Nonetheless, Saratu’s elder brother, Muhammad Tajudden, informed reporters that they locked her within the room after she was identified with a psychological sickness.
