End SARS: Gov. Lalong forms panel on police brutality, extra-judicial killings

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has established a Judicial Panel of Inquiry on police brutality and different extra-judicial killings, sequel to the Finish SARS protests throughout the nation.

A press release issued by Dr Makut Macham, Lalong’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, in Jos on Sunday, mentioned the governor had accepted the appointment of members of the panel, NAN studies.

Macham defined that the panel was required to research complaints of police brutality and associated extrajudicial killings within the state, with a view to delivering justice for all victims of the dissolved Particular Anti-Theft Squad (SARS) and different police models.

He mentioned the motion was in step with the advice of the Nationwide Financial Council (NEC) for the institution of state-based Judicial Panels of Inquiry by Governors to collate complaints and guarantee accountability within the operations of police models of their respective States.

In response to the assertion, the panel is to be headed by a retired Choose of the Plateau State Excessive Courtroom, Justice Philomena Lot, and was anticipated to hold out its task and submit its report inside six months.

Different members of the panel are: retired Commissioner of Police Garba Patrick; Mr Ezekiel Dauda Daschen (Youth Consultant), Mrs Rauta Dakok (Rep. of Legal professional Basic’s Workplace); and Mrs Kiyempia Mafuyai (Consultant of Human Rights Fee).

The director mentioned the panel along with investigating complaints would consider proof and draw conclusions on the validity of complaints, in addition to suggest compensation and different remedial measures, amongst different issues.
