The Catholic Bishop of Makurdi Diocese, Most Rev. Wilfred Anagbe, has suspended all pastoral actions at St. Peter’s Parish.
The church is situated within the Low-Stage space of Makurdi, the state capital.
The cleric cited desecration of the Holy Eucharist and looting of sacred vessels.
Rev. Fr. James Utav, the Diocesan Deputy Director of Communication, confirmed the event to the Information Company of Nigeria.
He stated the suspension, which took impact on September 15, adopted assaults on the Parish on August 13, and September 13.
The Chapel of Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the principle Church constructing had been breached.
“The decree sanctioning the suspension states that the Parish can be closed from the celebration of Holy Mass and all different pastoral actions in step with Canon 1211 with impact from 15 September 2020 till additional discover,” Utav added.
The Diocesan defined that the closure will allow preparation for penance with the intention to restore the harm the profanation did to the sacred physique of Christ.
