According to comprehensive reports, on the 10th local time, US Presidential National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien said in an interview with the US media that Turkey may be sanctioned by the US Congress for purchasing the Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile system.
According to the report, O’Brien commented on Turkey’s purchase of S-400 missiles during the live broadcast of CBS TV. “We are very dissatisfied with this.”
“If Turkey does not give up on the purchase of the S-400 system, in accordance with the “Administration of American Appeals by Sanctions Act” (CAATSA), the two houses of the US Congress may pass an overwhelming majority of sanctions resolutions, and Turkey will feel the impact of these sanctions. We have clearly communicated this position to Turkish President Erdogan.”
O’Brien said, “NATO does not have a S-400 position and does not allow a large purchase of Russian weapons. President Trump will tell him when he arrives in Washington.”
According to reports, US President Trump will meet with Turkish President Erdogan next week. O’Brien said that Trump will say that this is unacceptable during the meeting.
Previously, the United States excluded Turkey from the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter project. The United States also threatened that Turkey may be subject to further sanctions for purchasing Russian air defense missile systems.
