Issa Aremu Asks INEC To Postpone Edo, Ondo Governorship Elections – Channels Tv

A former vice chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Issa Aremu, has known as for the postponement of the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States.

The Impartial Nationwide Electoral Fee (INEC) had set September 19 to conduct the election in Edo and October 10 for the ballot in Ondo.

Addressing reporters on Sunday in Kaduna, Aremu believes conducting the elections within the face of rising circumstances of coronavirus (COVID-19) circumstances will put the lives of hundreds of thousands of voters in danger.

He alleged that the essential COVID-19 protocols, together with social distancing, have been violated throughout the latest main elections performed by numerous political events in Edo State.

Aremu warned that the citizens should not be uncovered to the risks of COVID-19 throughout elections and suggested INEC to rethink its timetable and see the way it can reschedule the 2 polls.

Based on him, for the reason that main goal of governance is to guard the lives and property of the residents, it’s incumbent on INEC to contemplate the inherent hazard of conducting elections whereas the COVID-19 pandemic is quick spreading within the nation.
