Makoko residents attraction to govt over relocation

Neighborhood leaders at Makoko-Iwaya Waterfront in Yaba Native Council Growth Space (LCDA) of Lagos State have appealed to the federal government over the deliberate relocation of residents from the realm.

They informed The Nation that the realm had been residence to over 10,000 Lagosians of Ogu extraction for over 100 years.

A youth chief, Mr. Vituwa Francis, stated former governor Babatunde Fashola gave the residents give up discover in 2012.

The youth chief stated the settlement was not a real reflection of the views of Makoko individuals.

He stated the residents weren’t in assist when the settlement was first conceived.

Francis appealed to the federal government to permit the residents stay in peace, including that they’d nowhere to go, having spent their total life within the space.

Isaac, a fisherman, urged the federal government to provide them approval to construct everlasting constructions.

A resident, Mr. Sadiku Adosu, stated Makoko residents had been contributing positively to the socio-economic growth of the state.

He implored the federal government to look into their plight.

“We have now been residing at Makoko-Iwaya for many years. What we wish from the federal government is provision of primary facilities, not relocation,” he stated.
