Nigerian govt addressing issues of a number of taxation, proper of means – Minister, Pantami tells Telecom operators

The Minister of Communications and Digital Financial system, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami has assured telecommunication operators that the federal government was addressing the problem of a number of taxation amongst different issues dealing with them.

Pantami mentioned the federal government was addressing different points affecting telecom operators like drawback of proper of means and safety of infrastructure.

He defined that this could assist fast-tracking broadband infrastructure deployment and penetration.

The minister disclosed this whereas charging the Nigerian Communications Fee (NCC) to make sure efficient monitoring and steering of the general implementation of the Nationwide Broadband Plan (NBP) 2020-2025.

He spoke on the inauguration of NCC’s Govt Commissioner, Technical Companies, Engr. Ubale Maska, because the Chairman of the newly-inaugurated Broadband Implementation Steering Committee (BISC) in Abuja, yesterday.

The minister mentioned the mandate of the committee was to make sure “efficient monitoring for implementation of the Nationwide Broadband Plan (NBP), 2020- 2025.”

He mentioned: “The journey began with the approval for the transformation of the ministry and its parastatals in October, 2019 from mere ICT establishments to digital financial system establishments by the President. This was adopted by the disclosing of the Nationwide Digital Financial system Coverage and Technique (NDEPS) in November, 2019 and the event of a brand new NBP 2020-2025, which was launched by the President in March 19, 2020.

“Issues of Proper of Manner, safety for telecom infrastructure and a number of taxations, that are essential to fast-track broadband infrastructure deployment and penetration are being addressed from all fronts.”
