Some members of the Peoples Democratic Occasion (PDP) underneath the aegis of Involved Edo PDP Stakeholders, have petitioned the Impartial Corrupt Practices and Different Associated Offences Fee (ICPC), over alleged diversion of funds by Governor Godwin Obaseki.
They alleged that the governor ought to be investigated over the alleged award of contracts to his agency, AfriInvest Ltd.
However, Obaseki’s media adviser, Crusoe Osagie, mentioned the petition was frivolous, including that the All Progressives Congress (APC) launched into the propaganda to tarnish the governor’s picture.
He mentioned the plot to divert his boss’ consideration will fail.
A replica of the petition signed by Andrew Egboigbe, a PDP member in Ward 3, Orhionmwon Native Authorities, was submitted to the ICPC on Monday.
The petition titled: ‘Petition towards the unfairly advantageous awarding of Edo State Contracts to Afrinvest Ltd by Mr. Godwin Obaseki’, alleged that Obaseki abused his workplace to award inflated contracts to his firm, AfriInvest Ltd, in flagrant disregard for the constitutional provision that guides the award of contract.
The petition alleged that Obaseki, being the founding father of Afrinvest, used his place to award contracts to his firm in flagrant disregard for the constitutional provision that guides award of contract.
It alleged: “We, as involved Edo indigenes, who don’t have any different place to name our house besides Edo State, file this sincere petition towards Mr. Obaseki, the governor of the state and his agency, Afrinvest Ltd.
“This adopted revelations from sources of unfair benefit the governor bestowed on the agency, utilizing collected state funds meant for developmental works and tasks.”
The petitioners alleged that though Obaseki stepped down because the chairman of AfriInvest’s Board of Administrators in 2016 on assumption of workplace, he put in Mr. Ike Chioke, who served as his stooge on the agency.”
